On this 25th day of [blank space] 1868 before me: a Notary Public

within and for said County [blank space] personally appeared [blank space] who being by me duly sworn deposes and says that he was Captain of Co. K 20th Regiment [illegible] during the late war that he well knew Richard Oliver. Who was [a] Private in Co. K of the 20th Regiment of U.S.C. troops.

That ^while in the service and in the line ofhis [sic] duty as a soldier on board of [steamship the Northern Light] on his way from New Orleans to New York City, K [began?] Discharge & he died of [blank space] fever contracted while in the said service.

Deponent further swears that he is not interested in any claim of any heirs of said deceased soldier for County back pay or Pension.
